Singapore hosts its first-ever Sprint this weekend, and it is also the sixth and final Sprint weekend of the 2026 season. If you are new to the format, the schedule can look confusing. This guide explains how an F1 Sprint weekend works, how points are awarded, and how to plan a fan outfit around it.
The Singapore GP schedule
According to Formula 1's official Singapore page, the weekend runs from 9 to 11 October with practice and Sprint Qualifying on Friday, the Sprint and Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday, and the race on Sunday. Session times shown on official pages may be converted to your local time zone, so check the official site for your own schedule.
How a Sprint weekend works
- Friday: one practice session, then Sprint Qualifying.
- Saturday: the Sprint race, then qualifying for the Grand Prix.
- Sunday: the Grand Prix.
Sprint Qualifying uses three stages, SQ1, SQ2 and SQ3, and sets the grid for the Sprint only. Regular qualifying on Saturday sets the grid for Sunday's race.
How points work
The top eight finishers in the Sprint score points, from eight for the winner down to one for eighth place, according to published reports on the 2026 weekend. The Grand Prix awards points to the top ten, with 25 for the winner. That means a driver can collect a maximum of 33 points across a Sprint weekend by winning both races. Sprint Qualifying and pole position do not award championship points.
Why Sprint weekends are great for fans
A Sprint weekend gives you more racing in fewer days. That makes it a good opportunity for a watch party, since there is a race on both Saturday and Sunday. If you are planning an outfit, our Singapore GP 2026 suit guide has the full plan for the night race.
Plan an outfit for two race days
- Choose layers you can wear across both days, since a full-length replica suit can feel warm.
- Keep accessories simple. See our 7 styling ideas.
- Take photos early in the evening. Our night photo guide helps with lighting.
